'Warmth for the Sole' Mission A Huge Success
Two SKY Team Agents share their reflections about Mission Possible
Recently the SKY Team, "St. Kevin's Youth Team" decided to make a difference in our community, the Greater City of Sudbury. Our plan was to raise at least 800 pairs of socks for the homeless and needy.
After raising 2727 pairs of socks we went to the Corner Clinic, in the Samaritan Centre to really get the feel of the homeless lifestyle, and to deliver our bundle of socks. Walking through those doors felt amazing. The homeless smiled with glee, and it looked as though they were warming up even before putting on a pair of socks. Although they hardly owned any material belongings, you could see the hope in their eyes. It was absolutely inspiring and made us want to help even more.
The volunteer workers gave us a tour of the Samaritan Centre which included the Elgin Street Mission, the Soup Kitchen, and First Steps. These volunteer workers were inspirational because of their willingness to aid all those in need in our community without any recognition for all their hard work, other than the joy in their hearts knowing that they are making a difference.
"This experience was very fun and emotional." says Nicole Partington, age 13. "Acting as a homeless person in our opening skit at church made me realize how horrible it felt to be ignored and I wanted to do something about that so, I joined the SKY Team to collect socks for the homeless. Also I have decided that whenever I see a homeless person going to acknowledge them in some way or another and donate food or money."
"This fulfilled something inside of me." says Sarah Kaelas, age 13. "It helped me recognize the reality of the city today and I'm gald I helped change that reality. It made me realize how lucky I am to live the way I do. Seeing how happy they were when we came in carrying bags of socks made me feel so happy inside and showed me the true joy in helping others."

City Council Meeting on Solution To Homeless
I was reading last weeks Northern Life Newspaper and saw the announcement the the City Councillors were having about the Homelessness in the Sudbury area.
I would suggest that if you want to help, please contact Citizens Survice Center for more information.
Thanks for all your hard work on the collection of socks, but like Jesus said, "Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time." Elimate the barriers for the homeless.
